Objectives:

  • Presentation of local resources at governmental and institution level (research institutions in charge of biodiversity), projects on biodiversity of Carpathian fauna (realised, running as well as planned for future)

  • Introduction to general survey of Carpathian fauna diversity

  • Identification of taxonomic resources (experts, database, literatures) on Carpathian fauna and the gaps in knowledge, particularly in check-lists.

  • Presentation of the Fauna Europaea project goals, its tools and results in Carpathian countries

  • Assessment of gaps in knowledge of Carpathian fauna

  • Establishment of links between leading institutions dealing with Carpathian fauna

  • Practical implementation of WP 17

  • Designing the ways to unveil hidden taxonomic resources and grey literature

  • Proposals for further investigation and cooperation on institutional and personal level

  • National FaEu NAS coordinators from related countries

  • FaEu staff (Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Paris, Warsaw)

  • Representatives of scientific societies in Carpathian countries

  • Other relevant participants of meeting

  • representatives of governmental level in charge of biodiversity 


Preliminary meeting programme:

registration (3.6.2003, Tuesday; 17:00-20:00)

4.6.2003 (Wednesday)

o   registration (8:00-8:30)

o   opening lectures to meeting (9:00-9:30)

o   key lectures of invited experts (9:30-12:00)

o   lunch

o   guided poster session (presentation of relevant institutions and projects) (14:00-16:00)

o   lectures

o   19:00 dinner, social event

5.6.2003 (Thursday)

o   lectures (9:00-12:00)

o   lectures (14:00-16:00)

o   summarizing the results of the meeting, defining goals and tools for future investigation and cooperation, framework, support for investigation of taxons, where data are lacking (looking of financial sources) (17:00-18:00)

6.6.2003 (Friday)

o   fieldtrip to museum of TANAP and to High Tatras Mts. (optional programme)


Conference language:

  • English 


Lectures:

  • Invited leading experts are obliged to present key lectures with principal information on status of certain taxons in whole Carpathian mountain range

  • National coordinators are obliged to present general overview of actual knowledge on biodiversity of mountain fauna in certain country (compiled in frames of Fauna Europaea project)

  • National coordinators are obliged to present overview of monitoring programmes/project on mountain fauna running in their countries (by help of poster session or oral presentation) 


Proceedings

  • principal lectures presenting scientific results are planned to be published in scientific journal


Reimbursement:

  • no registration fee - all participants

  • invited leading experts with active presentations – accommodation and food will be reimbursed from budget of the project


Bid for submission of lecture thesis:

  • If you want to apply for tender of invited experts, please send thesis of your presentation to meeting organisers (stloukal@fns.uniba.sk or stanislav.kaluz@savba.sk) no later than 28.2.2003.

  • Steering committee of the meeting will select five leading invited experts till 15.3.2003.

  • Deadline for abstracts: 18.4.2003
